🤲 Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy technique performed by your physiotherapist to release tension, restrictions, and tightness in the fascia—the connective tissue that surrounds and supports your muscles, bones, and organs throughout the body. By applying sustained, light to moderate pressure (often using hands, elbows, or forearms), the therapist identifies areas of stiffness or "knots" (trigger points) and holds the pressure until the tissue softens, lengthens, and releases.

This approach is especially effective for chronic pain, muscle tightness, postural imbalances, restricted mobility, and conditions like fibromyalgia, back pain, or post-injury stiffness. It helps restore natural movement patterns, reduce pain, and improve overall function by addressing the fascial system holistically rather than focusing only on muscles or joints.

Common techniques may include:

  • Sustained direct pressure to restricted areas
  • Gentle stretching combined with pressure (stretch and release)
  • Indirect methods to allow the body to unwind naturally
  • Soft tissue manipulation targeting fascial adhesions

Myofascial Release is often combined with other manual therapies (such as joint mobilizations or soft tissue work) and active exercise therapy to maximize recovery, enhance flexibility, and support long-term pain relief and movement quality.
